3-Ethoxyaniline is an organic compound that is a building block for many other compounds. It has a molecular weight of 130.2 and chemical formula of C6H8O2N2. 3-Ethoxyaniline has been shown to be an antimicrobial agent that can inhibit the growth of bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. It also reacts with tyrosinase to produce quinoneimine and 3-ethoxyquinone, which are reactive intermediates capable of crosslinking protein molecules. The mechanism of action is thought to be due to its ability to act as a hydrogen bond donor or acceptor. 3-Ethoxyaniline has been shown to react with amines in the presence of hydrochloric acid, forming nitriles and releasing water.
