Description

Ethyl isoxazole-3-carboxylate (EIX) is a chiral hydrazone that has been shown to have pharmacophoric features similar to those of the clinically used antidepressant, fluoxetine. EIX is also an orally active ligand with a dihedral angle of less than or equal to 30° and an alcohol group that can be substituted by a nitro group. This compound has been shown to have high affinity for binding to serotonin receptors. EIX was synthesized in the presence of methyl ester, which may be replaced by other protecting groups for different synthetic routes. EIX has also demonstrated stereoselectivity in its interactions with serotonin receptors, where it preferentially binds to the 5-HT2A receptor over the 5-HT2C receptor.
