Description:
1-Ethyl-piperidine-2-carboxylic acid is a cyclic amine that has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory activity. It inhibits the production and release of arachidonic acid from phospholipids in the cell membrane, which reduces the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. 1-Ethyl-piperidine-2-carboxylic acid also exhibits antihistamine effects through inhibition of histamine synthesis. This drug also has been shown to inhibit the c1-c3 isoenzyme of cytochrome P450, which may be responsible for its ability to lower triglyceride levels. The nitrogen atom in this molecule causes it to have aromatic properties and an alkynyl group on the β chain leads to a sulfur atom being present on the α chain.
