Description

Ethyl 5-Methylisoxazole-3-carboxylate is a potential antibiotic that has been evaluated in vivo as a treatment for Staphylococcus aureus biofilm. This drug inhibits the production of transpeptidase, an enzyme required for cell wall biosynthesis, which results in bacterial death. It also inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus in vitro and Galleria mellonella larvae infected with S. aureus. Ethyl 5-Methylisoxazole-3-carboxylate has not been shown to have any adverse effects on human cells, unlike other antibiotics such as isoxazole compounds.
