Ethyl 2-amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)-5-thiazolecarboxylate is a prodrug that is metabolized to form glutamate dehydrogenase. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of diabetic patients with elevated levels of glutamate and also has genotoxic effects. Ethyl 2-amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)-5-thiazolecarboxylate has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in a strain specific manner, which may be due to the formation of lactic acid or the production of metal hydroxides. This prodrug can also induce high sensitivity C-reactive protein, which is an inflammatory marker.
