Ethyl 5-methyl-4-isoxazolecarboxylate is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of antiviral drugs. It is an analog of the nucleoside acyclic phosphonates, which are antiviral agents that inhibit viral replication by preventing the formation of viral DNA and RNA. The compound has been shown to be effective against hepatitis B virus, HIV infection, and human T-cell leukemia virus type 1. Ethyl 5-methyl-4-isoxazolecarboxylate also inhibits chloride channels in cells and inhibits cell growth in colorectal carcinoma cells.
