Description

Ethyl 8-fluoro-4-hydroxy-3-quinolinecarboxylate is a potentiator and allosteric modulator of the acetylcholine receptor. It enhances the affinity of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine for its receptors, which are located on neurons in the brain. This drug has been shown to be effective against Alzheimer's disease in transgenic mice. Ethyl 8-fluoro-4-hydroxy-3-quinolinecarboxylate may also act as an orthosteric agonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, which regulate spontaneous activity in neurons by regulating acetylcholine release from presynaptic terminals.
