Ethyl 2-amino-4-(2-thienyl)-3-thiophenecarboxylate is a potent inhibitor of lactate dehydrogenase, an enzyme that is involved in the metabolism of glucose. This compound inhibits the growth and metastasis of cancer cells by inhibiting glucose metabolism. Ethyl 2-amino-4-(2-thienyl)-3-thiophenecarboxylate has been shown to reduce tumor size and inhibit tumor cell proliferation in vitro. The molecular docking studies suggest that this compound binds to a hydrophobic pocket on the surface of LDH with high affinity.
