Ethyl 4-bromo-3-methyl-2-butenoate is a synthetic ligand that binds to nuclear receptors and is used in cancer therapy. It has been shown to be stereoselective, binding preferentially to the retinoid X receptor (RXR) over the retinoic acid receptor (RAR). Ethyl 4-bromo-3-methyl-2-butenoate has also been found to inhibit the growth of tumor cells and induce apoptosis. This chemical can be used as a synthetic skeleton in drug design.
