1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Hydrogen Sulfate is a salt that contains a cation and an anion. It has been shown to be able to reversibly bind to chloride ions in the presence of water, forming a solution with viscosity. 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Hydrogen Sulfate is also capable of absorbing large amounts of water and is not prone to crystallization. This salt has been used as an adsorbent for removing chloride from wastewater and has been shown to be activated by UV light. The surface methodology for this salt was developed using capsicum annuum (a type of chili pepper) extract and ethylene diamine as a solvent. 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Hydrogen Sulfate can be prepared by reacting potassium dichromate with acetic acid in the presence of sodium hydroxide, which forms the salt and releases hydrogen
