1-Ethyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium tetrafluoroborate is a non-volatile liquid that has a melting point of -14.0°C and a boiling point of 235.6°C. It is soluble in organic solvents, but insoluble in water. 1-Ethyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium tetrafluoroborate has been shown to be an effective solvent for the electrochemical deposition of metal from triflic acid, especially when the metal is protonated or contains nitrosyl groups. It also has been used as a supercritical fluid for experiments involving proton exchange membranes, catalytic oxidation reactions, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
