Ethylenedithiobis(trimethylsilane) is a dithiolate compound that is used in the synthesis of dihydrocodeine. It has been shown to be toxicologically safe when administered at a dose of 400 mg/kg body weight (bw). The five-membered ring is planar with geometries that are similar to those observed for other dithiolates and chlorosilanes. The monitoring of hydrocodone and shift in excreted ethylenedithiobis(trimethylsilane) have been found to be useful as an analytical method for quantifying dihydromorphine.
