Description:

3,3'-Ethylenedioxydiphenol is a monomer that can be used in the production of polycarbonate plastics. It is produced by reacting chlorine with acetone at high temperatures. The exotherm that is generated during this reaction can be controlled with catalysts such as zinc chloride or sulfates. This monomer has a very low viscosity and is soluble in water. 3,3'-Ethylenedioxydiphenol has been shown to preferentially react with chloride ions on the surface of the catalyst, which are generated by reactions with zinc chloride or sulfate. This leads to a higher yield of product when using this monomer. 3,3'-Ethylenedioxydiphenol has been shown to catalyze reactions at lower temperatures than other catalysts and does not interfere with other chemicals in the process.
