2-Ethylaniline is an organic compound that is used as a building block for a variety of other compounds. It can be synthesized by the reaction of ethyl bromide with sodium carbonate in the presence of a cationic surfactant and amines to produce 2-ethylaniline. This chemical intermediate can be used to form diazonium salt, which is then reacted with a variety of different reagents, including hydrochloric acid, sodium citrate, or sodium hydroxide to produce various products. The mechanism for this reaction is not well understood but may involve the formation of an intermediate free radical followed by nucleophilic attack on the diazonium cation.
