Description

4-Ethylbenzophenone is a monomer with optical purity of ≥99.5%. The chemical structure consists of a benzene ring and two phenyl groups. 4-Ethylbenzophenone can be used as a precursor to produce other compounds, such as styrene, which is used in the production of polystyrene plastics. This compound can also be used for the synthesis of ligands for use in spin resonance spectroscopy or magnetic resonance spectroscopy. 4-Ethylbenzophenone has been shown to react with chloride ions under Friedel-Crafts acylation conditions to form chlorobenzene, which is an important industrial chemical intermediate. 4-Ethylbenzophenone is also known as an impurity in some commercial optical grade solvents due to its ability to absorb light at 400 nm.
