Description:

Episappanol is a natural product that has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. It is an extract from the Japanese liquorice root (Japonica) that has shown to have similar bioactivities as Interleukin-10. Episappanol consists of two molecules, japonica and caesalpinia sappan, which are found in the plant's roots and stems. Episappanol blocks the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α by inhibiting the transcription factor NF-κB. This inhibition prevents the activation of inflammatory genes, thereby reducing inflammation. Episappanol also inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells and induces their apoptosis by suppressing cellular proliferation pathways through inhibition of protein synthesis.
