Description:
2-Ethynylbenzonitrile is a nitrogenous compound that contains an azide group. It forms the nitrate salt in water, which is highly soluble in organic solvents. 2-Ethynylbenzonitrile has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of topoisomerase I and II, with IC50 values of 0.5 and 4 μM respectively. This compound has also been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells and act as a stabilizer of DNA at high temperatures. The inhibition of topoisomerase I and II by 2-ethynylbenzonitrile is analogous to that of anthracyclines and daunomycin.
