3-Ethyl-2-methylbenzothiazolium Iodide is a fluorescent compound that has been used in fluorescence spectrometry to detect the presence of aldehydes. It has been shown to react with nucleophiles, such as potassium ions, and form adducts. 3-Ethyl-2-methylbenzothiazolium Iodide is also a hemicyanine dye that can bind metal cations, such as copper. The binding constants for this dye have been determined by measuring its fluorescence intensity as a function of pH. 3-Ethyl-2-methylbenzothiazolium Iodide is an important fluorescent probe in histological analysis and neurodegenerative diseases.
