Ethyl 2-iodobenzoate is a triamine that can be used in pharmaceutical preparations as an inhibitor. It has been shown to bind to the cross-linker of proteins and inhibit their function. Ethyl 2-iodobenzoate has also been shown to inhibit the binding of retinoic acid, which is a metabolite of vitamin A that plays a key role in the differentiation of epithelial cells. This compound has been used as a reagent for coupling with metal ions, such as palladium and nickel, in organic synthesis reactions. Ethyl 2-iodobenzoate has two functional groups: one hydroxy group and one aromatic hydrocarbon group (aromatic ring). The aromatic hydrocarbon group is an alkene that contains two double bonds.
