Product Information
- Ethane, (trifluoromethoxy)-
- Ether, ethyl trifluoromethyl
Ethyl trifluoromethyl ether is an organic chemical compound that is a colorless volatile liquid. It has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and dyes. Ethyl trifluoromethyl ether is not soluble in water, but it can be mixed with alcohols or other solvents to form solutions. Ethyl trifluoromethyl ether reacts with alkalis, producing hydrogen fluoride. This substance has been shown to have cardiovascular toxicity when administered orally, as well as to produce toxic effects on the heart and liver following inhalation. Ethyl trifluoromethyl ether is a cyclic molecule with a boiling point of −51 °C (−60 °F) at standard atmospheric pressure. It has been shown to have high yield through a thermal reaction that produces ethylene gas and magnesium metal.
