Description

Ethyl 8-fluoro-3-oxooctanoate is a reactive fluorinated organic compound. It is used in biochemical and toxicological studies as a mesylate or tosylate salt. This compound reacts with fluoride, chloride, nitrite, thiocyanate, aldehyde, fluoroacetyl and isothiocyanate to form ethyl 8-fluoro-3-oxooctanoate salts. Ethyl 8-fluoro-3-oxooctanoate can be converted to the corresponding acid by treatment with citric acid or mercaptan. Death has been shown in rats following intraperitoneal administration of this substance.
