1-Ethynyl-2,4-difluorobenzene (1EDF) is a protonated molecule that has been shown to have low photolytic and thermal degradation. 1EDF has been shown to be a stabilizer for β-unsaturated aldehydes which are susceptible to oxidation. It was found that 1EDF binds to the terminal alkynes of the β-unsaturated aldehyde, forming hydrogen bonds. This binding stabilizes the β-unsaturated aldehyde and prevents it from reacting with oxygen or other reactive species in the environment.
