Alpha-ethynyl-alpha-(trifluoromethyl)benzenemethanol (AETB) is an analogue of the natural product subtilisin. AETB is a non-specific esterase that has been shown to have higher enantioselectivity than subtilisin in the hydrolysis of aliphatic chain substrates. This enzyme was expressed recombinantly and mutated for enhanced kinetic activity, and was also shown to be more resistant to feedback inhibition by its natural substrate.
