Product Information
- 5-Oxazolecarboxylic acid, 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-, ethyl ester
- Ethyl 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-oxazole-5-carboxylate
Ethyl 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)oxazole-5-carboxylate is an oxazolecarboxylic acid that is used as a preemergence herbicide. It is most often applied to the surface of the soil before planting, but it can also be applied to seeds before planting. It inhibits the growth of plants by inhibiting the enzyme acetanilide synthase. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of acetanilide and phenoxy into aniline and phenol, which are essential for plant metabolism. Ethyl 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)oxazole-5-carboxylate has been shown to be effective against some crop plants such as soybeans, rice, maize, sorghum, and wheat.
