Di(pyridin-2-yl) sulfite is an organic compound with the formula (CH3)2NSO2Cl. It is a white solid that is soluble in water and alcohols. The compound can be prepared by the reaction of 2-chloropyridine with sulfur dioxide:
The compound is used as a dehydrating agent, for example in the synthesis of cyclic aldoximes from nitriles. Di(pyridin-2-yl) sulfite reacts with amines to give thionyl chloride and transfer the chloride substituent to amines. It also reacts with carbodiimides to form isothiocyanates.
