Description

1-Methyl-6-phenyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-amine is a DNA binding agent that inhibits the transcription of genes in the nuclear DNA. It has been shown to bind to the response element of cyclin D2 gene and inhibit its transcription. The rate constant for this reaction was determined to be 3.1x10^8 M^(-1)s^(-1). This compound also inhibits the production of serum prolactin levels by suppressing the activity of protein synthesis at the level of mRNA. 1-Methyl-6-phenyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2 amine may also have carcinogenic effects on squamous cell carcinoma cells due to its ability to bind to dna and cause mutations.
