5-Fluoro-1-[(2R,5S)-5-(Hydroxymethyl)Tetrahydro-2-Furanyl]-2,4(1H,3H)-Pyrimidinedione is a hydrogenated pyrimidine nucleoside analog that inhibits the enzyme nucleoside phosphorylase. It is cytotoxic for mammalian cells and has been shown to be active against cervical cancer cells in vitro. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of leukemias and hepatoma cells in vitro. 5-Fluoro-1-[(2R,5S)-5-(Hydroxymethyl)Tetrahydro-2-Furanyl]-2,4(1H,3H)-Pyrimidinedione is bactericidal for Gram negative bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium.
