Phenoxybenzamine is a molecule that is used as an optical sensor. It has an acidic profile, which can be determined by its nmr spectra. Phenoxybenzamine is also a dopamine antagonist and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as myasthenia gravis. Phenoxybenzamine binds to dopamine β-hydroxylase and inhibits the release of catecholamines from nerve terminals. This drug also has locomotor activity-suppressing effects, which may be related to its ability to inhibit ryanodine receptor channels in skeletal muscle cells.
