1-Fluoro-2-(2-nitrovinyl)benzene is an alkaloid that contains a nitro group. It has been synthesized by the reaction of 2-nitrovinyl chloride and isocryptolepine. This synthetic method is mechanistic, and provides a section on mechanochemistry. 1-Fluoro-2-(2-nitrovinyl)benzene inhibits the transformation of polyphosphoric acid to phosphoric acid in organic synthesis. Mechanochemistry can be defined as the conversion of chemical energy into mechanical work by means of molecular collisions. The mechanism starts with a molecule that has a high degree of rotational freedom colliding with another molecule, which may be either stationary or moving in the opposite direction. The collision causes the molecules to rotate about their center of mass and then to vibrate about their new equilibrium positions.
