9-Fluoro-6,7-dihydro-5-methyl-8-(4-methylpiperazin)-1,7-dioxo-1H,5Hbenzo(ij)quinolizine-2-carboxylic acid monohydrochloride (9FDA) is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis. It has been shown to be active against Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. 9FDA has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis and Streptococcus faecalis. 9FDA has minimal activity against Streptococcus pyogenes and no activity against Enterobacteriaceae or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
