2-Fluoro-6-nitroaniline is an organic compound that belongs to the group of carboxylates. It is a reactive and unstable chemical, which can be stored in the form of 2-fluoro-6-nitroaniline hydrate (2FNAH) or as its chloride derivative. 2FNAH reacts with carbon disulphide to form chloroacetic acid and thione, which are intermediates in the synthesis of ciprofloxacin. This chemical has been shown to have antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and M. avium complex isolates by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and DNA topoisomerase IV enzymes. The inhibition activity of 2FNAH is dependent on the amines present in the environment, such as nonpolar solvents, which are required for its interaction with these enzymes.
