4-Fluorobenzotrifluoride is a reactive chemical that is used in the synthesis of fluoxetine, a drug used to treat depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The compound reacts with primary amines to form an ether, which can be hydrolyzed by hydrogen fluoride to produce the desired product. 4-Fluorobenzotrifluoride has been shown to be toxic when consumed orally or injected.
