4-Fluoro-2-nitrobenzonitrile is a solvent that is used in the synthesis of medicines. It is activated by chlorine, aluminium chloride, or other chlorinating agents and can be used to synthesize sulfoxides and aryl chlorides. 4-Fluoro-2-nitrobenzonitrile can also be used as a solvent for amide and dimethylformamide reactions. This product is highly toxic to the nervous system, which makes it useful as a neuroleptic agent. 4-Fluoro-2-nitrobenzonitrile may also be referred to as FNB.
