3-Fluoro-5-nitrobenzaldehyde (3F5NBA) is an intermediate that can be used in the synthesis of selenium. 3F5NBA is synthesized from dioxane and sulfuric acid in a sulfuric acid environment. The synthetic method for this intermediate includes reacting the dioxane with sulfuric acid, producing a water-and-sulfur dioxide byproduct, followed by adding a nitrobenzene to the solution. The 3F5NBA product precipitates out of solution, leaving behind the water and sulfur dioxide byproducts.
