Product Information
- 6-fluoro-1,2-benzothiazol-3(2H)-one
6-fluoro-1,2-benzothiazol-3-one is a peroxide that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the bacterial cell wall. It has been shown to be active against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 6-fluoro-1,2-benzothiazol-3-one was determined to be 0.5 µg/mL in an agar dilution assay. 6FBTZ has also been shown to have antibacterial activity against resistant mutants. A study was conducted on a strain of Escherichia coli with a metallo β lactamase, which is an enzyme that confers resistance to β lactams such as penicillin and ampicillin. When exposed to 6FBTZ, the mutant did not grow and had no resistance. This drug has been developed for clinical trials in patients with multidrug resistant Gram negative infections.
