5-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde is an intermediate in the industrial synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It is used as a reagent to make the pharmaceuticals 5-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzoyl chloride and 4-[(5-chloro-2,4-difluorophenyl)amino]-1,3-dimethylbenzene. 5-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde selectively modulates macrophage cell line activity and has been shown to inhibit the formation of inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) and interleukin 1 beta (IL1β).
