(4-fluorophenyl)methyl-triphenylphosphanium (4FPP) is a chlorinating agent that can be used to produce the corresponding sulfoxide. The biological activity of 4FPP has been studied in vitro using a variety of methods, including x-ray crystallography, biological testing, and spectroscopy. 4FPP has shown anti-estrogenic effects and may also be able to inhibit the production of hormones such as testosterone. This compound is a dimethylsulfoxide analogue that is not soluble in water but is soluble in hydrochloric acid or dimethyl sulfoxide.
