Description:
3-Formylphenyl 4-chlorobenzoate (3FPCB) is a pyridine derivative that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. 3FPCB inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the bacterial enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which is involved in one of the steps of folate metabolism. This causes inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell division, leading to cell death. 3FPCB also has a role in hydrogen bonding with benzene rings and forming monohydrates. 3FPCB can be used as an antimicrobial agent or as a precursor for other drugs.
