2-[(5-Formyl-2-methoxybenzyl)thio]nicotinic acid is a carboxylic acid that is structurally related to nicotinic acid and pyridine. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of bacterial growth in the presence of oxygen, and inhibits the activity of carboxylic enzymes. 2-[(5-Formyl-2-methoxybenzyl)thio]nicotinic acid has been shown to inhibit the production of an enzyme called carboxylic in bacteria that are exposed to oxygen, which may be due to its ability to bind to these enzymes and prevent them from functioning. It also inhibits bacterial growth in the presence of oxygen.
