4-Formylbenzamide is a potent antiviral agent. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses in mammalian cells, including the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Hepatitis C virus (HCV). 4-Formylbenzamide binds to a number of functional groups, such as lysine residues and hydroxide solution, which are found on the surface of proteins that are important for viral replication. This binding inhibits protein synthesis and prevents viruses from replicating. The antiviral potency of 4-formylbenzamide has been demonstrated by analyzing spectroscopic data from chemical structures that have been synthesized on a polymer film.
