N-(2-Formylquinolin-6-yl)acetamide is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect the presence of amines. It has been shown to have an affinity for active sites, nucleophilic groups, and aminoquinolines. N-(2-Formylquinolin-6-yl)acetamide can be used as a chemosensor for nerve agents. It reacts with acetaldehyde to form 2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-6-(fluoromethyl)oxime, which changes its fluorescence properties in response to acetaldehyde. The wavelength of this fluorescence is shifted from 350 nm to 400 nm when acetaldehyde binds to the sensor.
