[2-(4-Fluorophenoxy)ethyl]amine is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that binds to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. It inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. This drug is active against mycobacteria and has been shown to be effective against paratuberculosis in mice. The drug can also act as an uncoupling agent for photosynthesis.
