Description:

2-Formylthiophene-3-boronic acid is a peroxide that is used in cancer research. The compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of pancreatic cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. 2-Formylthiophene-3-boronic acid also inhibits tumor growth and metastasis in animal models of melanoma and breast cancer. In addition, this compound has been shown to be neuroprotective by reducing neuron cell death following ischemia reperfusion. 2-Formylthiophene-3-boronic acid is also an effective inhibitor of DNA synthesis, which may be due to its ability to form conjugates with nucleophiles such as glutathione or thiols on the surface of cancer cells.
