5-Fluorodeoxyuridine monophosphate ammonium is an anti-cancer compound that inhibits the production of thymidylate, which plays a role in DNA synthesis. It is used in cancer research as a model system for investigating the inhibition of enzymes involved in biosynthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. 5-Fluorodeoxyuridine monophosphate ammonium has inhibitory properties on target enzymes that are important for the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. The analytical method used to measure its effects on enzyme activity was developed at Merck Institute for Therapeutic Research. The synthase used to synthesize this compound is from Streptomyces viridochromogenes, and it can be synthesized using a process involving glycol ethers.
