Description:
Fumaric acid tert-butyl ester is a medicine used for the treatment of gout. It is a conjugate of fumaric acid and tert-butanol. Fumaric acid tert-butyl ester is an intermediate in the synthesis of heterocycles, such as hydantoins, which are used in the synthesis of peptides and other biomolecules. It has been shown to have high yields in organic chemistry. Fumaric acid tert-butyl ester is also a synthon for hydantoin, which can be made from the reaction of fumaric acid with sodium ethoxide or potassium carbonate and ethanol.
