3-Feruloyl-4-caffeoylquinic acid is a flavonoid found in the Asteraceae family of plants. It has been shown to have radical scavenging activity and attenuating properties. 3-Feruloyl-4-caffeoylquinic acid is also a tyrosinase inhibitor, which means it inhibits the production of melanin in the skin. 3-Feruloyl-4-caffeoylquinic acid is metabolized by methoxylation and caffeoylation to form patuletin and speciosin, respectively. Patuletin has antioxidant properties that protect cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals while speciosin has antiinflammatory properties that inhibit prostaglandins synthesis.
