1-(3-Furyl)Ethanone is a white crystalline solid with a pyridine ring. It has the chemical formula C5H5O and the molecular weight of 117.14 g/mol. The compound belongs to the category of organic compounds known as heterocycles, which are organic compounds that contain at least one heteroatom (i.e., an atom other than carbon). One of its distinguishing features is that it is stereoselective and only reacts with ethoxycarbonyl chloride to form an NMR spectra and oxime. This compound also has hydrazone, propiolic acid, furan, and diels-alder reactions, as well as propiolic groups. In addition, it reacts with potassium thionyl chloride to form a furyl group.
