Product Information
Fluoromethyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate is a fluorine-containing alkylating agent that is used as a radiotracer in positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT). It is taken up by cells through the cb2 receptor, which is found on the surface of cells. Fluoromethyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate binds to choline molecules in the cell, which can be detected with PET imaging. This reaction solution is then placed into a reaction vessel to provide enantiomeric purity. The fluorinated methyl group of fluoromethyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate reacts with oxygen and water molecules to form reactive radicals that react with the methylene group on adjacent carbons, resulting in an alkylation reaction. This process results in the formation of a stable molecule that has been shown to be bioactive.
