Description

3-Formylbenzamide is a hydrophobic, single-stranded anti-viral agent with homologous properties. It has been shown to inhibit the release of neuraminidase from influenza virus in vitro. 3-Formylbenzamide does not affect the synthesis of viral RNA or protein and has no effect on the replication of DNA. The compound interacts with the active site of neuraminidase, which blocks the hydrolysis of sialic acid to form pyruvic acid. This results in an increase in pH and an increase in the concentration of sialic acid, which prevents virus release.
3-Formylbenzamide is stable at room temperature and can be prepared using chromatographic methods that are compatible with pharmaceutical production standards. The physicochemical parameters have been optimized for oral administration and it can be administered orally as a liquid or tablet form.
