2-(2-Fluorophenoxy)ethylamine is a chemical compound that has been shown to be an intracellular uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation. It is able to bind to the transport proteins in the membrane and inhibit their function, leading to increased permeability of the cell membrane. This property can be used as a potential therapeutic agent for mycobacterial infections and paratuberculosis. 2-(2-Fluorophenoxy)ethylamine has also been shown to have hypotensive properties in mice, which may be due to its ability to cause vasodilation by inhibiting calcium ion channels in vascular smooth muscle cells. The mechanism of action for this drug has not yet been fully elucidated but conformational screening studies suggest that inhibition of the mitochondrial electron transport chain might be responsible for its effects on oxidative phosphorylation.
